"They Don't Make 'em Like They Use To"
 Many people have
said "they don't make 'em like they use to." This saying can be
applied to planes, trains and automobiles, houses, buildings and most definitely,
office furniture. Steel in desk and files is lighter and thinner than it
used to be, and rollers are now mostly made of plastic, not ball bearings.
There are simply no more all wood desks or solid wood desks. Rather, we
now have pressboard to contend with which is weaker and not long lasting.
Chairs are much lighter and believe it or not, they seem smaller. Or maybe
we're just getting larger. Casters are mostly plastic instead of pure rubber,
and mechanisms are now made with cheaper steel.
Twenty or thirty years ago there were no computer desks, hutches or hydraulic
chairs to accommodate the needs of today's modern office. However, what
did exsist still works, and frankly, with a little care it will last forever.
A good looking and functional preowned desk bought today will far outlast
most any new desk simply because the old ones were built to last forever!
